If you’d love a hexagonal gazebo in your garden but don’t have the time or the tools to build one from scratch, you can buy a kit instead.
You don’t need any special skills to put up a ready-made gazebo. But you do need to pay attention to a few things to make your gazebo ready for all seasons.

How to put up a hexagonal gazebo step by step
There are lots of gazebos on the market, but before you buy one, make sure it will fit in your chosen space. Keep in mind that you’ll need a piece of flat ground that’s large enough to accommodate the gazebo. You don’t want to have to squeeze it between trees or put it too close to the fence. Assembling and installing the gazebo is straightforward enough.
Step 1 – Prepare the gazebo ground
Clear the spot where you want to put up the hexagonal gazebo. Remove the grass and any roots or rocks on the ground. If there are any holes, fill them up with garden soil. Try to make the surface as flat as possible.
Step 2 – Unpack the hexagonal gazebo
When you start unpacking the gazebo kit, make sure not to throw away the packaging indicating which posts go where. Don’t mix support posts with roof beams. The smallest confusion can cost you precious time.
Also, keep all the screws and connectors in their appropriate packaging. Most manufacturers include spare screws and washers. Try not to lose any in the grass.

Step 3 – Assemble the deck

Lay the perimeter beams out in a hexagonal shape, as described in the instruction manual. Screw them together and then proceed to install the intermediate beams that will create the framework of your deck.
Once you have built the supporting framework, install the deck boards.
Step 4 – Put up the posts
Take out the six support poles that go in the six corners of the deck. It’s essential to ground the support poles so your gazebo can withstand strong winds.
Some gazebo kits offer concrete containers to place the posts in, others may require you to dig holes for the support posts. Make sure to follow the instructions carefully at this point. After all, you don’t want to see the gazebo gone with the wind, do you?
Once the six posts are in place, plumb them to check that they are perfectly perpendicular to the deck. You probably won’t find a plumb line included in the kit so if you don’t have one, ask around to see if any of your friends or neighbours have one you can borrow.
Step 5 – Install the fence and railings
With a gazebo kit, you don’t have to worry about building a fence. It comes in panels, and all you need to do is screw them in place.
It’s at this point that you get to decide where the entrance to the gazebo will be. Make sure it’s easily accessible.
Idea: Later on, you might want to make a gravel path leading to the gazebo entrance.
Step 6 – Put up the hexagonal gazebo roof
Building the hexagonal roof of a gazebo is the most difficult part. But with a kit, you should be able to complete it in a couple of hours. You might want a friend to help you out at this stage.
In some kits, you’ll find a top connector, which is the central piece of the roof. The roof beams go into this central connector. You will need to screw the other ends to the roof joists.
Next come the intermediate joists that form the roof structure. Put them in place using the indicated screws.
You’re almost there! All that’s left to do is to put up the roof boards. Work carefully and make sure there are no gaps between the boards. You don’t want your roof to be leaking.
How to assemble a hexagonal gazebo fast
If you need to put up a hexagonal gazebo in a hurry, look for a kit with aluminium poles and waterproof fabric. This type of gazebo can be very useful if you’ll be hosting a lot of guests in your garden or if you need a temporary structure to put tables and a few chairs under. Pop-up gazebos are also a great option for fair kiosks.
When you order an aluminium gazebo kit, you’ll find everything you need to assemble it in the package, including special screwdrivers.
Follow the instructions to the letter when putting the aluminium posts together. It’s no more complicated than putting up a tent, just don’t try to do it in windy conditions! The roof of this type of hexagonal gazebo looks pretty much like the underside of a giant umbrella.
When you’ve built the aluminium structure, take out the fabric that goes on top of it. This fabric is usually made of heavy-duty, waterproof outdoor fabric. The pitched roof will allow rainwater to run off easily.
Depending on the model, the walls of the gazebo can be made of the same type of fabric as the roof, or net fabric. The latter looks better, but it’s ineffective in bad weather.
Finally, don’t forget to anchor the gazebo to the ground with the supplied stakes.
