Buying new furniture for your garden is a big investment. The average price of garden possessions is £1,265 per home, with the average Brit spending £180 on garden accessories last year alone.
With the rising cost of everything, including garden furniture which leapt 155% during the lockdown, it can be tempting to play it safe and choose plainer outdoor furniture that will last the test of time.

Choose quality pieces
It’s true that the best quality garden furniture is expensive but if you’re able to invest, it’ll last much longer than cheaper items and most likely stay out of landfill. If you’re buying furniture with a metal frame, opt for powder-coated aluminium which won’t chip or rust.
To help your garden furniture last longer, store cushions and lightweight wicker furniture inside in wet weather and over the winter. Protect wooden furniture by covering it or placing it in a shed or garage over winter.
Spread the cost
Most of the items listed are available to purchase with Paypal, Klarna or Clearpay credit options allowing you to spread the cost over a few months.
Measure up
It can be really hard to visualise how new furniture will look in your outdoor space but you can make a template using cardboard boxes, especially useful for seeing how much floor space it will take up.
